Although many retailers, such as Play.com, now include free delivery in their product prices, unfortunately the web’s largest retailer Amazon still hasn’t cottoned on to this craze. Standard first class delivery from Amazon can be expensive – for example an electronics item could cost up to £5.88 to be delivered (or for Royal Mail to lose it). Fortunately for a short period of time, Amazon is now offering all customers a month’s worth of free next day deliveries, courtesy of their Amazon Prime service.

Amazon Prime is a subscription service from Amazon, a bit like a golf club, or paying to get into the House of Lords. You pay Amazon £49 a year, and get free stuff and preferential treatment in exchange for your hard earned cash. One of these treats is unlimited free next day delivery on all qualifying products, so if you’re a serial Amazon shopper, this could be quite a worthwhile service to have under your belt. But that’s not all – you can also get:

- Express delivery (before 1pm) for the discounted rate of £4.49 per item

- Evening delivery (same day) for the discounted rate of £7.49 per item, if you live in Birmingham or London

- The ability to share your benefits with up to four other people in your household

There’s no minimum order value, meaning there’s no more buying unnecessary stuff just to get up to the £15 free Super Saver Delivery threshold. If you want to buy the Now 18 CD and listen to it in the car on the way to work in a couple of days, you can.

Best of all, for a short period Amazon are offering Amazon customers who have not previously used Amazon Prime with a free month’s trial of the service. If you’re looking to buy a new TV or home furnishings from Amazon, it may be worth taking a look to see if you can start a trial and get quicker and free delivery. As with any freebie, there are a few catches and clauses – if you don’t cancel the service by the end of the month, Amazon will automatically start to bill you for the service, although £49 a year works out at just about £4 per month, which isn’t too bad, and you could probably spend that amount on delivery from Amazon already. Free delivery is only available on certain items, and you can’t get free delivery if you live in some ridiculously remote offshore cave in the British Isles – but have a look at the Amazon website for details.

Click here for more information on free next day delivery with a month’s free trial of Amazon Prime. Give it a go if you’re shopping with Amazon, you’ve got nothing to lose!

One in three shoppers feel their consumer rights have been ignored when trying to return goods or get a refund.

In a survey* for the ‘Know Your Consumer Rights’ campaign nearly 40 per cent of men and just over 30 per cent of women said that they felt retailers had attempted to dismiss their claims when they’ve tried to return goods or get a refund.

Ann Hopwood, of Kirkby-Stephen in Cumbria, was glad she stuck to her guns after feeling her rights were ignored after being refused a refund for an engagement ring.

“After buying an engagement ring from Argos in December 2007 I was disappointed when in June this year two of the diamonds fell out of the setting.

I took the £300 ring back to Argos but they said that the goods were outside of the guarantee period so I’d have to pay for any repairs. I wasn’t impressed, to put it mildly.
I then got in touch with Consumer Direct to find out exactly what my rights were. They advised me of my statutory rights under the Sale of Goods Act. If it can be proved that they goods are not of satisfactory quality, then the trader is required to offer a free repair or like-for-like replacement.

The next step was to download a template letter from the Consumer Direct website and send it by recorded delivery to Argos, requesting a reply within 14 days.
Argos replied straightaway and offered a full refund of the £300!

Overall I was happy with the service once I got my refund. I’m a bit more wary and alert when buying goods now, but it would take more than that to put me off shopping!”

It pays to know your rights. The ‘Know Your Consumer Rights’ campaign aims to educate shoppers about their three key rights – “goods must fit the description given, be of satisfactory quality and suitable for purpose”. For further information and clear, practical advice contact Consumer Direct on 08454 040506 or visit the website www.consumerdirect.gov.uk.

Anyone visiting the Consumer Direct web site can test their Consumer rights knowledge by taking part in an online quiz. Test your knowledge for the chance to win £150 worth of shopping vouchers.

(*The survey was conducted by BMRB and questioned 2,009 people in England, Scotland and Wales. Further information is available at www.bis.gov.uk)

ACs still remains a third priority purchase when compared with refrigerators and televisions. However the sales have been boosted by the increasing demand in the middle- income group and small offices home-office segments. Air-conditioning industry is growing at a hectic pace and is providing a huge opportunity for all the players. The market has overall done well. The product mix is changing towards high value Split AC.

The increasing affordability levels and the high ambient temperatures experienced in the summer months have been key demand drivers

Another reason for the push in sales is observed due to the narrowing difference between the branded and non-branded. In fact based to the latest industry trends, industry insiders reveal that branded AC players are thinking over the idea of further reducing prices. At present, an entry-level branded AC is priced at about Rs 18,000, which is likely to be brought down to Rs 12,000. Owing to the seasonality of demand in the AC business, nearly 70 per cent of the annual sales takes place in the months of March to May. “In next two to three years, there is huge scope for the market to expand tremendously. The industry is expected to grow at about 20 per cent per annum

Types of Air Conditioner Equipment – to make your shopping easy

Window and through-wall units: Generally air conditioners in homes or other buildings are traditional single rectangular units used to cool an apartment, a house or part of it, or part of a building. The air conditioner units need to have access to the space they are cooling (the inside) and a heat sink. Usually the outside air is used to cool the condenser section. For this purpose, single unit air conditioners are placed in windows or through openings in a wall made for the air conditioner; the latter type includes portable air conditioners.

Window and through-wall air conditioners have opening on both the inside and outside, so that the inside air in order to be cooled can be blown in and out by a fan in the unit, and outside air can also be blown in and out by another fan to act as the heat sink. The controls are on the inside.

A large house or building may have several such units. Should virtually every room be cooled with its own air conditioning unit, most of the day, it would be less expensive to use central air conditioning, though that may not be physically possible.

By: Mohit Sharma

About the Author:

Government Auctions for Surplus Items.

If anyone searching to buy cheap house hold items or even quality items at big discount price, look in online auctions by Government or Police. You can buy almost anything in online auctions. Mainly you can find Cheap used Cars, cheap jewelry, Cheap laptop or computers, office furniture and other daily use items. Prices in these auctions driven by demand and supply, so sometime it’s better to go and purchase items in online auction to unknown sites too.

Online Cars & Jewelry Auctions Here

For example Police Car Auctions have been around for years and dealers get a lot of auto stock from auctions. Car auctions can be a great place for excellent deals for those who are serious about searching good prices. For a person buying a car or want to have repossession of a car from an auction is not so easy. Public car auctions provide good opportunities for finding a great deals on a used car. It is recommended to go to a car auction to get a great deal on a car and to save big money. However, you need to do some preparation before going into an government auction or you could end up getting a bad car deal instead.

In online car auction, many cars have a reserve price for each car and the vehicle has a minimum price to be sold at. If it is too high car price, do not bid on it.You can find cheap cars in your area, by entering your zip code.

In similar way you can check prices for jewelry, Home Appliances, engagement rings and discount diamond jewelry, sometimes you get jewelry almost 90% off than the market value in police auctions. For jewelry you should not buy from less popular sites.

Online Government Auctions – Cheap Surplus Items Find Here

By: William Dean

About the Author:

March 2007 – Fashion, style and elegance has begun to enter the kitchen. Rather than just the chefs looking great, their tools are beginning to take on a more contemporary visage. What started out as a niche market with small appliances increasingly straying from the tried and tested blueprint of a white outer shell, refrigerators and cookers are now changing too; perhaps the term “white goods” is outdated in today’s cosmopolitan world as manufacturers are producing appliances with a glossy black appearance.

With reality TV and celebrity chefs combining to influence much of the general public’s everyday life, it’s no wonder that there’s a shift in the focal point of the modern day family. The kitchen has been moved more into the eye line with open plan living areas, thus coordination and design have also become just as important for the cooking space. Just like furniture, as kitchen appliances aren’t being bought just because of their functionality, but increasingly because of their design and desirability.

Maytag have responded to consumer wishes by producing a range of black American fridge freezers. The glossy, reflective black fascia is technology borrowed from the more traditionally luxurious car market. The end product is a brilliant mirror-like finish that appeals to emotions rather than just the practical senses. Samsung have also entered the black refrigerator market, with 3 different models in its RS21 range. The trademark glass black finish usually reserved for their TVs and mobile phones has been translated flawlessly to add sophistication to the market.

Whirlpool, Bosch and SMEG haven’t been left out of the black refrigerator market, either. All three manufacturers have produced highly desirable classy American fridge freezers, all intended to appeal to the fashion conscious, with Bosch declaring that ‘black is back’. SMEG have taken styling and design in the kitchen even further by making standing fridges available with a Union Jack themed livery.

Design, sophistication, flair – all these terms are the messages that black glossy appliances are designed to convey. It’s easy to forget that this latest fashion accessory is just a fridge, but this statement itself would be some way off the mark too. These USA fridge freezers invariably come with the same features as those seen on American TV sitcoms. They open up like wardrobes, revealing a huge amount of storage space, and plenty of flexibility with the arrangement of shelving. Humidity control, frost free freezing, special cooling technology and an external ice dispenser generally come as standard. Rest assured that different manufacturers will have differing technologies to sell, so potential buyers will have plenty to choose from.

The fashionable trend setters among us will be clamouring to get their hands on this new wave of trendy kitchen appliances, and many people will also discover how hard it is to resist these gorgeous items. It’s a trend that’s likely to continue, and there will probably be even better looking designs and objects available for the kitchen in the future. Like football boots, where the traditional all black leather design is now a rarity, white coloured kitchen appliances could well become retro in a few years. It’s conceivable that in the near future black won’t be cool, but rather just another colour available to an ever discerning consumer.

By: Darren Roberts

About the Author:

Many parents and caregivers of someone on the Autism Spectrum know what it is like to be short on sleep! For some reason, sleep disturbance is a common problem with autism.

Parents have told me so many stories about their childrens unusual sleep habits. Some children literally wander the house or their room all night long.

Recently I talked to a lady who would find her son sleeping in the closet. She was concerned and tied the bifold closet doors closed to keep him out, but he lifted them off the tracks at the bottom and crawled under the doors to get in!

My own grandson woke in the night one night and wedged himself underneath our bed. We were hysterical with panic the next morning until we found him sleeping peacefully under our bed! Obviously these boys both liked the small, confined spaces, and you are better off going with that than fighting against it! If they are not feeling safe and comfortable in their bed, they are probably not going to sleep there or stay there. My grandson stopped getting up at night after we started implementing some of the following tips:

White Noise- Use an air purifier or a fan for white noise. Prevent Distractions- Heavy curtains, thick carpets, and making sure the door doesn’t squeak. Try a Tent- Let your child try sleeping in a pup tent inside a sleeping bag, many will love the small space. You can also find “bed tents” made just for this purpose by searching online. Sunlight- Expose your child to sunlight in the morning to regulate the body’s production of melatonin. Supplements- Ask your pediatrician about supplementing with melatonin, it can help normalize the sleep-wake cycle in children with autism. Heavy Play- Playing with weighted toys, carrying a heavy backpack, pushing, pulling, etc. before bedtime. Epsom Salts Baths- Try giving your child Epsom Salts Baths before bed. Don’t let them drink the bath water! Bedtime Schedule- Create a PEC’s Bedtime Schedule to hang on the wall and use it daily. Ban Stimulants Before Bedtime- Don’t give your child caffeine, sugar, or anything with additives 2 hours before bedtime. Autistic children can be especially sensitive to stimulants and food additives. Weighted Blankets- A weighted blanket can be a lifesaver for your child and the entire family. You can find quality, washable weighted blankets at Affordable Weighted Blankets.

By: Donna Chambers

About the Author:

Portable Appliance Testing, or PAT, is a requirement for all businesses in the UK to perform. This will help you with making sure that all of the electronic appliances which your workers use are running at safe operational levels and that it will be unlikely that damage will occur from malfunctioning. Once these tests have been completed, indication of the results will be placed directly onto the appliance using PAT testing stickers. These stickers will give a clear indication of the state of the appliance itself and you can use this to your advantage to make sure that your workers do not put themselves into danger. Finding PAT testing labels will become an important part of the regular operation of your business.

Before PAT testing gets underway, it is always a good idea to make sure that you have all of the labels that you need. Proper PAT testing stickers will come in a variety of colors, each of which indicate the state of the appliance. Green stickers mean that the appliance is in a good working condition and you can use it safely for a long time to come. Blue stickers indicate that the appliance is in a proper working condition but should be tested again soon to make sure that it is still safe. The red stickers mean that the appliance is malfunctioning and you should not use it again. It’s important to affix PAT testing labels to all electronic appliances which need testing, so that your workers stay within safe zones.

As you set out to buy PAT testing stickers, you will find that there are many different options available. Some companies will offer PAT testing labels which have been pre-printed with your company name and other pieces of relevant information. You can use these labels to easily stock up on all the stickers that you will need for a long time to come. You can also find a number of companies who will offer variety packs of PAT testing stickers, giving you one package with enough stickers of all types to last you for a while. Between the properly functioning green, passing blue, and failed red stickers, you should be able to stock up on enough labels to keep your company functioning safely for a while.

PAT testing labels themselves will have various types of information located on them to make sure that they are being used properly. The ID of the specific piece of equipment will be located on the sticker, telling you exactly which appliance was tested. It will also give the name of the inspector, verifying the fact that this was tested by someone who knows what they are doing. The date that the test of the appliance was conducted will be listed in addition to the date that the next test should be conducted by. This will help to keep all of your electrical appliances up to code and keep them working properly. The PAT testing labels that you use can help you stay safely within all of the zones you need to be operating at.

By: Vikram kuamr

About the Author:

Home chefs have turned to healthier methods of preparing meals and using healthy cooking appliances in that effort. While still incorporating the use of pots and fry pans to prepare certain dishes, other meals are possible when home cooks change over to using smaller home appliances to cook foods for the family. Some families have grown closer because healthy cooking appliances are easy to operate by many members of the family.

Foods cook quicker with the healthy cooking appliances in the home. Families no longer have to worry about grease splattering because the healthy cooking appliances do not require oils or any type of cooking grease to release foods from cooking surfaces. For more resources kindly visit www.chef-123.com. The non-stick surfaces in many healthy cooking appliances have allowed home cooks to prepare beautiful dishes because the non-stick coatings allow the foods to brown evenly.

With the introduction of cooking oil sprays, all foods prepared with healthy cooking appliances are noticeably less greasy than meals cooked with oils. These sprays have been proven effective when cooks decide to cook outdoors. All meat types cook thoroughly and evenly on a metal grid and with the cooking sprays in place; families no longer have to worry about any type of meat sticking to the surface. Baking in the oven turns out perfect every time when non-stick sprays are used in the pan and healthy cooking appliances such as toaster ovens will reduce electrical costs.

Whichever cooking method home chefs decide to use, there are healthy cooking appliances that will turn out superb meals every time. Many home appliances are designed with vented cooking surfaces that allow fats from foods to fall through. Foods are healthier when they are not allowed to cook in natural grease but some home chefs continue to use this cooking method because of the flavor these greases add to food products when they are finished cooking.

Cooking time has been significantly reduced with the aid of healthy cooking appliances. Table top grills allow home chefs to cook both sides of meat at one time and the cooking time saved is allotted to creating other healthy food items for the family to eat. A complete meal can be produced in less than an hour with the healthy choices in cooking appliances sold in stores across the United States. You can also visit us at www.cheese-cake-recipes.com. Families can incorporate the use of crock pots to cook while nobody is home to watch them because these healthy cooking appliances require no stirring.

Certain home appliances took the early lead in preparing healthy meals for the entire family. Microwave ovens are healthy cooking appliances because they require no oils to cook meals and fat can be easily drained from foods when cooks place paper towels underneath. These healthy cooking appliances cook foods faster than any other appliance and allow every member of the family the opportunity to prepare certain foods that will be served at a gathering. Safety is never an issue with healthy cooking appliances because covered dishes have been designed that will prevent splatters and spills from occurring.

By: premamitkumarsahni

About the Author:

It’s always good to splash out on some brand new appliances when you are having a new kitchen fitted, and the deals that are often available mean it’s often the best time to get the latest models.

But it’s not desirable to simply throw away your old white goods if there is nothing wrong with them. Sometimes a family member or friend can make use of them, but if you don’t know anyone who needs them you need to find an alternative solution.

The answer lies in recycling them by selling them online. Not only does it mean you will prolong the life of a perfectly good appliance, you will also prevent needless waste and be doing your bit for the environment too. What’s more, the cash you get for your second hand sale can go towards buying the new model for your new kitchen.

Washing machines are a good example of an appliance that sells well online. Classified washing machine ads are an excellent place to pick up a bargain, and anyone who is able to pick up the machine from the seller will save pounds on even the cheapest shop-bought bargain.

If you want to sell your washing machine online, you need to make sure you include all the relevant information in your ad. People will usually want to know the make and model, and how old it is. Obviously the price is a big factor in how successful your advert will be – it’s worth taking some time to look at some current classified listings to see what kind of prices used washing machines are fetching, so you can pitch yours at a comparable price.

Honesty is always the best policy when you are selling anything on the internet. If there is even the slightest scratch on the machine, it’s best to mention it so you won’t encounter any problems when the buyer comes to pick it up. You don’t necessarily need to mention this in the ad; simply include your contact details in the advert and when people phone for more information you can bring any issues like this to their attention.

The main benefit of selling your old appliances online is that you will reach a far bigger audience than you would by advertising purely in your local paper. In this sense it is far more cost effective than any other form of advertising. It’s quicker too – when you place an advert online it generally goes live far more quickly than the amount of time taken to get an ad printed in a newspaper.

It’s estimated that over a fifth of internet sales are made through classified adverts; all of which goes to show that we can all do our bit for recycling and helping others – not to mention earning some cash at the same time.

By: andrew.regan.2006@googlemail.com

About the Author:

Buying your first home is exciting. No more rental payments to a landlord making money for someone else. Instead, you are purchasing your own home and investing in yourself. Money paid to your home mortgage is really investing in your future. It is no wonder that first time home buyers are so excited, sometimes so excited that they make mistakes. There are a few common mistakes of first time home buyers, which with some knowledge and direction can be avoided.

First of all, it is always good to research the housing market and see what is out there. Yes, the very first house you look at may look like its perfect, but there are others out there for sale too. Be sure to at least look at a few before deciding on the one you want to buy.

Watch the cost of the home, do not be swayed into thinking that you can not barter down the cost of the house, you probably can.

Insist on a home inspection by a qualified inspector. There are plenty of people who will provide you with a home warranty when you buy their house and try to sway you from having the house inspected.

Having a home warranty is important and many first time home buyers just don’t know that they should or could get one when they are buying an older home. Home warranties are not a new product; they’ve been around for many years, but many people think that they are for new homes only, not realizing that they can be purchased for older homes as well.

A home warranty makes great sense when you are purchasing an older home – you just don’t know the house very well until you’ve lived in it. A home warranty protects first time home buyers from major expenses for repairs and replacements that could come up.

A first time home buyer can make a major mistake if he or she does not understand that if something goes wrong, they are fully responsible to fix it. There is no landlord to call and the costs are all theirs to bear. This is one of the major reasons it is so important to invest in a home warranty when you purchase an older home. If any major repairs need to happen, most often the home warranty will cover the costs, making owning a home much more feasible.

When looking for a home warranty, it’s important to have a basic understanding of what you are looking for. When you talk to an agent, there are many questions that you need to ask to be sure you know what level of warranty you are getting. Questions to ask include:

What is covered with the home warranty? Most often the electrical system, plumbing system, heating system, cooling system/air conditioning, and major appliances that are covered under the warranty.

What is excluded from coverage with the home warranty? Most often this includes outdoor water, including the sprinkler system, faucet repairs, hot tubs, pools, spas and costs of hauling away debris and old appliances.

What are the rates/premiums? How much will you have to pay for the home warranty?

What is the deductible on the home warranty? The deductible is how much you will have to pay when you make a claim. Most often the deductible is $50, this amount will be deducted from the overall cost of the reparations paid by the warranty company.

How long is the warranty active for? Most often home warranties are offered in one year terms.

Is the warranty renewable at the end of the term? If you’ve purchased it yourself as the buyer, it is likely renewable. However, if the seller purchased the home warranty, it will not be renewable.

What are the terms of the warranty? When will the warranty be void? Most often if you’ve misused the item, or if it is not up to code or not installed properly, your warranty will be void and will not cover any reparations.

How are claims handled?

How do I make a claim?

With the above information, first time home buyers can avoid some of the serious mistakes that are usually made, and then go through with their home purchase knowledgeable and safe from the fall out of a potentially serious mistake. Mistakes such as the ones listed above can land a first time home owner in serious debt paying for repairs they were not prepared for financially. Owning a home of your own is very exciting, especially a first home, but make sure you go into it with your eyes open, your finances secure and a plan for the future should a problem rise with one of the major components of the home.

By: Stephanie Larkin

About the Author:
